These tools are purely to develop leaders within universities and should not be confused with either generic 360s or those used to formally assess performance.
Building upon nearly 20 years of giving 360 feedback to senior managers around the world, and as sole suppliers of 360 feedback to Durham University, University of Edinburgh and University of Central Lancashire, any managers within Higher Education can now use our new HE 360 to develop their skills and effectiveness.

HOW DOES A 360 DEGREE FEEDBACK PROCESS FOR HIGHER EDUCATION WORK?
Whether you are using our brand new 360 tool for managers within HE, or if we have developed a bespoke 360 for your university, the process for users is the same. Having received a unique link and instructions, users input into an online portal the details of who feedback is to come from – Manager, Peers and Direct Reports.
Assess against a set of behaviours that our research indicates are demonstrated by successful leaders and managers within HE.
Self perception is compared to the feedback from others and clarified by comments that they provide. A confidential report is generated and is discussed with a Protostar consultant (90 mins), and after time for further reflection, a further meeting facilitates the creation of your individual development plan. In most instances, this plan will be shared with the individual's manager or HR.

MAKES THIS 360 TOOL DIFFERENT?
Many universities have tried to use 360 tools in the past but found that they are too generic and that being an academic leader or a professional services manager in a university is different to other professions.
Having worked closely with senior leaders in HE and having provided feedback to hundreds of HE managers, we have developed a 360 degree feedback questionnaire that is tailored purely for universities. Unlike internally run tools that are linked to formal performance review processes, our 360s are confidential and are purely for development. Feedback will come in the form of a detailed report and a 90-minute feedback session with a Protostar consultant. Ongoing support will be provided to help create an individual development plan.

360 FOR HE MANAGERS
Our Higher Education 360 model looks at 5 distinct competency groups required to lead effectively within the HE sector.
Each competency group is assessed based on feedback for 10 behaviours, making this by far the most rigorous leadership development tool available for the HE sector.
Aimed at senior academics, department and faculty heads, PVCs and managers within professional services departments, there is a heavy emphasis on strategic thinking, operational effectiveness, creating a respectful and inclusive culture, embracing change and encouraging innovation, and ensuring team success.
As with all our 360 feedback models, at the end of each section respondents are encouraged to provide examples or suggestions that might help to develop the individual. These comments are anonymous.
