 Michael Coates
Founder of Protostar, Michael started his career in retail management, progressing into customer service, sales and leadership training, for high street names and business schools. In 2001, he published his "best selling" book Psychology and Organisations. By then Michael was part of a $8 billion US manufacturing company, for whom he led the HR services group across Europe, Middle East and Africa. During his 10 years there he had operational control of staff based from Moscow to Zimbabwe and was responsible for all aspects of HR and organisational development. Michael brings a unique global view to everyday issues, backed up by a thorough theoretical knowledge and the use of psychometric tools where required.
Michael holds a MA in HR Strategy, DMS, plus a Chartered Institute of Marketing Diploma and is a qualified teacher (PGCE.) He is also an Associate Member of the Association for Coaching (AMAC.)
Renowned for his confident and engaging style of delivery, Michael can quickly help organisations analyse their issues and he excels at both one to one and group training/coaching. He has delivered feedback, coaching and training across Europe, USA, Africa and Dubai.
Alan Marshall- Principal Consultant
Alan has nearly 30 years of HR experience and brings a number of specialisms to Protostar that enable us to fully support global leadership teams, specifically, international payroll, HR systems and expatriate management.
Alan's experience predominantly includes expatriate management with experience in 28 countries, joint venture start ups in India and China, recruitment and dismissal in Germany, a former East German acquisition and general HR Management in the Netherlands
Additionally European compensation and benefits experience in many countries including the numerous expatriate payrolls. Alan designed, launched and managed a HR Administration shared service centre and has many years of experience dealing with US organisations. He also offers extensive training services (IPP Tutor, Presenter, Author and Fellow.) and is FIPP accredited. Jose Pottinger - Principal Consultant
Jose's career, over more than 30 years, has extended across FMCG and Engineering with notable achievements in both Line and Corporate management. Formerly Director of HR for a leading US multi-national, Jose has developed a career based on a broad international portfolio embracing strategic HR planning, including joint venture business development and functional leadership in a customer led quality culture.
Jose has crafted her mentoring and coaching skills over many years with specific engagement at senior leadership level and also with employee partners. Jose is also a successful trainer, majoring in Diversity Leadership and effective cross cultural work.
Jose has contributed on HRM as a visiting lecturer at a number of Universities and is a former member of the editorial advisory board of the Human Resources Management Journal. She is a Companion of the CIPD and a former CIPD Vice President for Pay and Employment conditions. Jose holds an MBA and CCIPD.
Gill Main - Associate Consultant
Gill Main’s pragmatic,hands-on approach to both leadership/management and personal development comes from operating at the sharp end of business over the last 25 years. Through her days as a superviser right up to director of her own companies, Gill’s aim has never changed; to influence the thousands of people she coaches so they understand the impact their behaviours have on themselves and others.
A diverse range of individuals has benefited from coaching with Gill. As each one shares their professional or personal experiences and challenges, Gill helps them to change their behaviours thus achieving success and overall well-being. This often life-changing result is down to Gill’s unique coaching style which combines traditional development techniques with complementary approaches.
Now with well-being as a central element of all her coaching and training programmes, Gill’s focus is on encouraging leaders and managers to embrace their supportive role as well as managing productivity. Pummi Mattu is an expert personal and corporate coach. She has worked with the public and voluntary sector for 20 years and has extensive experience in leadership, project management, community development, community cohesion, inter- agency partnership working, diversity and domestic violence. She has run workshops, training events, focus groups and conferences for a wide range of audiences.
Her qualifications are MSc, B.A. (Hons). She received distinctions for both Personal and Corporate Coaching, has INLTP Diploma in NeuroLinguistic Programming and is a licensed trainer for Europe’s largest coaching training provider, The Coaching Academy. In 2006 she was awarded by Equalities North East , The North East Equality and Diversity Award for an Individual Making a Difference. Sue is an experienced business leader and Executive coach. During a 20 year career in media sales, marketing and management she amassed a wide range of experience and led numerous change projects.
At the core of Sue’s experience is 11 years with Emap, a FTSE 200 company, where she held the position of Group Sales Director (Radio) and was a member of the Radio Board. Her key achievements were built on developing highly performing teams and her success in the role was based on a combination of clear, strategic thinking and considered, insightful people skills.
Sue’s work with clients includes transforming teams and managing successful change. As a coach Sue is known for her supportive style but she challenges clients to stretch their thinking and achieve their goals. She is a qualified Myers Briggs practitioner and Associate Member of the Association for Coaching. David Cole - Lead Consultant USA
Based in Indiana USA, David is an Organization and Leadership Development expert with 35 years experience serving at a senior level in corporate strategy, quality, as well as corporate HR for a leading US multi-national manufacturing firm. David has a unique appreciation for strategically integrated approaches to performance improvement and organization effectiveness.
David’s rich experience in large system change has included, providing leadership to several global change initiatives focused on: Performance Management, New Product Development, Diversity Engagement, Functional Excellence, Leadership Development, and Quality Operating Systems. He brings expertise in process design, development, deployment and assessment to large system change efforts. David has a particular talent and passion for coaching and learning facilitation. He has extensive experience of training and certifying organization leaders in these roles as internal change agents. In addition to his US experience, David has coached, trained and certified leaders in India, China, Mexico, Canada and the UK. He is certified as a Master Trainer with Achieve Global and Development Dimensions International (DDI) and is a member of the International Coach Federation (ICF).
